The BUZZ is out with everything Google is doing with Twitter and Facebook. Its just been announced that Google will include status updates from Facebook Fan Pages in their real time search which already includes twitter posts. What does that mean to your business? If you do not have a facebook page for your company, now is the time to think about getting one. Its fairly easy to set up a Fan Page on facebook, that is if you are on facebook already.

Many make the mistake of trying to set up their personal profile as a page for their company or product. Be careful, this is a direct violation of Facebook Policy. Profiles are for people only. Pages should be used for products and services. Another option is the Facebook Group. It has its benefits as well.

All of this confusing? Maybe you should get some help.

Thank you GOOGLE! I received notice this weekend that google is going to stop supporting Internet Explorer 6.0. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I have have had many discussions over the last year trying to explain why money should not be wasted trying to accommodate those that have not upgraded their browser from IE 6. Making sites backward compatible is a waste of time and resources. I myself use Firefox or Chrome. Occasionally I pop on to IE to see how a site looks and make sure it does not break. Trying to make it work in IE 6 has been frustrating at times. Google is forcing the upgrade by not even delivering some of their products to viewers that still use IE 6.0. Maybe that is enough to convince everyone to start upgrading.

Personally I suggest Firefox or Google Chrome…but if you must do IE…please upgrade to latest version. Make it easier on the web designers trying to deliver the latest technology and experience. You will be happier!

I attended the International Builders Show last week in Vegas. The Builder Show provides a lot of great seminars as well as networking events. It was a new experience this year in that I was going as myself, representing myself and my new company, BotheWebguy LLC. In the past I have worked the trade show floor demonstrating and pitching products and services. I have also attended as a consultant with other companies as support and sales.

Originally not on the speaker list, I was asked to step in and speak on the topic “Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Secrets Revealed and Demystified”. I was very fortunate to have Bob Schultz with the New Home Specialists on the seminar as a co-speaker. I have provided some consulting and social media work for Bob and his clients through an affiliation with Builder Consulting.

I think the session was well received.
Here is a link to review the 7 SEO TIPS and a link to the presentation.

I attended Atlanta Wordcamp this past weekend. There were several good seminars and sessions offered on Friday and Saturday. I was able to brave the cold and ice and make it safely. As a HUGE fan of Wordpress, I am always looking for tips and tricks on how to do things better and/or more efficiently. It was good to catch up with several friends in the industry at the event.

On Saturday morning, we got a preview of Wordpress 3.0. – WP+MU=WP. I was very excited to hear about the new release incorporating the multi-user functionality into the self hosted Wordpress install. Current sites set-up for 1 blog will not be required to make the change with new upgrades, but will have the option through scripts or patches available at the site. Read More→
